Why I love CrossFit
I’m not going to lie, I love competition.  I think having an older brother growing up has trained me to always try to be as good as he was, or strive to be better than him.  If you want to race something, I’ll try it.  If you want to compete in some crazy weird challenge and need a wing man, I’m your guy.  I love a challenge of any type; physical, mental and everything in between.  CrossFit hits these cords for me on a daily basis, and that is why I have become addicted.

I found CrossFit in 2012 when I was on the lookout for something new and challenging.  CrossFit is a perfect fit for me because I love the challenge. I love that it is different everyday (this helps my ADD).  The most important aspect of CrossFit that I love is the community.  Community to me is a group of people who genuinely care about one another.  If you miss a class, they are the people who give you a text, a call, or FB post asking you why you missed class.  They are the people that cheer you on when you are the last one on the WOD floor during a workout that you swear may actually kill you.  They are the people that high five you when you hit a PR. They are the people that 'No rep' you because they will not let you cheat yourself or the movement.  Community to me is true friendship, and these days’ true friends are hard to come by.

I have always been an athlete, I love the drive and the push.  I was a gymnast, competitive cheerleader, ran cross country and track & field.  I continued my running career at the collegiate level being a national competitor in Track & Field. Since college, I have remained keeping health and fitness as top priority in my life.  I continued my training running Half Marathons, 5ks, 10ks, we even did a few triathalons, but I was missing the competition setting that allowed me to push myself past my comfort zone.  That was a always a great indicator for me on my improvement. In 2008 after my daughter Madilyn was born, I wanted more. I started teaching a bootcamps and I loved it, but as an instructor I wanted more for myself as well. In April 2012 my husband and I heard CCC it was a crash course into CrossFit.  When I walked in to door, I was intimidated and intrigued, I was amazed by the weights the women were lifting and how fit and lean they were. I instantly wanted to be amongst the greatness. I can honestly say it was the first time since college I felt butterflies, and I instantly fell in love. I cannot imagine my life without CrossFit. After joining I learned its more than being able to lift heavy shit, and push yourself to the point that you never thought you could, it's about family too, working together to achieve your goals and helping another achieve theirs.  I love everything about it!!!  I know I am obsessed.  What I love most is that you can be at any level and we go can do the same work load side by side and feel the same intensity. My entire family CrossFits, Husband and kids, its strengthened all of us mentally and physically in all aspects of life and I love that.  Everyone can do it, and everyone needs to fuel their inner beast - you will be amazed at the things you can do and I promise you - you will love it, and you will never turn back.

I was never an athlete in school. I was in Marching Band and musicals and lived a very active lifestyle, but it wasn’t until college that I realized I had control over my own health. I watched family members and friends lead unhealthy lifestyles. I saw the outcomes and knew I didn’t want that for myself. I wandered through the world of fitness with all the ADD I could muster. I went from group style classes and globo gyms to marathon training and nothing held my attention. I was in Arkansas in my first year of teaching and knew I had to find a healthy outlet and time for myself. This is where CrossFit came into my life. This was also when I made the least amount of money, lead the busiest lifestyle, and lived the furthest from a gym where I knew no one. But no excuses, right?

What I loved and still love about CrossFit is that I just had to walk in the door. The planning was done, someone was there to help me through it, friends were always there to encourage me, and anyone was willing to hold you accountable. That was 2014 and even through many life changes - moving states, new jobs, new relationships, broken bones, all the highs, and all the lows - CrossFit was my constant. Because while it is constantly varied, it is always dependable. I can depend on how there is always something to work on and get better. I can depend on it to be frustrating and challenging. I can depend on it to bring me the community that I will continue to choose to surround myself with every day. And to think, all it takes is walking in the door.

I've been an athlete for as long as I can remember.  I've played basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, and ran track at some point or another throughout junior high, high school, and into college at the rec level.  I'm competitive by nature so sports always gave me that outlet for my competitive drive.  I always had coaches who did a great job at pushing me harder than I thought I was capable of going.  I found Crossfit three years ago right after I finished running the Air Force Marathon.  I was trying different fitness routes in order to get my self back in shape after having my daughter.  I had done the workout at home route, then started running to train for the marathon and was ready to take on a new challenge.  I had seen Nate and Crystal's posts about their experiences with Crossfit and was curious about it, when they opened up Long Road I was ready to see what it was all about.  I immediately feel in love with the atmosphere, the coaches, the workouts and mostly the barbell.  I love that I'm always pushing myself to meet a new goal and am excited about the opportunity to do the same for other athletes at LRCF.

I graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College with a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science and with a minor in Orthopedic Injury Assessment and Treatment in 2010.  Shortly after graduation, I became certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and have been working as personal trainer and strength coach since 2011

I have worked directly and indirectly with athletes of all genres and skill levels, from professional football players, to middle school cross country teams, as well as people searching to change their lives through better health and fitness.

Since joining LongRoad CrossFit, I have grown a sting passion for CrossFit and what it stands for. I truly believe in the community aspect, and that it is directed towards all age groups and abilities. Because of this, I am currently in the process of becoming a L1 Crossfit coach, and am excited to become a part of the LongRoad CrossFit team.

I am a Certified Personal Trainer and I graduated from the National Personal Training Institute in Columbus, Ohio. I am also currently in the process of obtaining my L1 CrossFit Certification. Outside of training the general population, I have had experience in training a variety of special populations including youth, older adults, pregnancy and postpartum, group training, weight loss/weight gain, aerobic endurance and strength training. In May of 2019, I became a USAPL member and competed in my very first sanctioned powerlifting competition. In August of 2019, I started my CrossFit journey. A lot of different roads lead me to Long Road. I started like many people out there… on the treadmill. Then, I decided to start taking a variety of classes like Zumba, bootcamps, even home workouts. Eventually, I hired a personal trainer because I had a desire to lift free weights. During my sessions, I was very interested in “why” I was doing a particular exercise and ultimately this curiosity led me to pursue my personal training certification. While in school, we worked a lot with the barbell and those were the moments that I enjoyed the most. Upon graduation, I started working with a powerlifting coach. Though I am passionate about powerlifting, I still felt like something was missing. After a few conversations with some members of LRCF, I decided to sign up. Instantly, I realized that what was missing for me in my prior training was the environment LRCF provides. It is so refreshing to walk into a place where every day you get coached, cheered for, high-fived, etc.. even if you feel like you performed at your worst. They welcome you with open arms, without judgement, and they strive to help you reach your full potential without thinking twice about it. My goal is to help people find what they enjoy so that they can sustain it and live a better quality of life.  It is my dream come true to be able to get this opportunity to work in an atmosphere that fortifies things that I am so passionate about.  I have learned to believe that if you want to be successful at something you have to place yourself outside of your comfort zone. When you are ready to do that you will absolutely change your life to be the best it can be.

I am a recent Wittenberg University grad. I received my degree in Exercise Science in 2019. I played football at the collegiate level through Tiffin University and Wittenberg University. Sports have always been a huge part of my life, playing baseball, basketball, track and field, and football. I currently train athletes of all ages, including beavercreek’s high school football team. After my football career came to an end, I found a new way to compete: CrossFit. Strength and conditioning has always been my way out and made me who I am today as an athlete and a person.
